Upper Mississippi River Blufflands Alliance Map

Within the Upper Mississippi River watershed lies a remarkable region known as the Blufflands. Its rugged landscape stretches for more than 400 miles along this iconic river - from the Twin Cities to the Quad Cities.

This "greenway of the heartland" is changing rapidly, as natural lands are divided, developed and changed. With the common goal of protecting the natural areas of the Upper Mississippi River Blufflands, six land conservation organizations banded together with collaborating organizations to create the Blufflands Alliance.

 

Since 1994, the Blufflands Alliance has permanently protected more than 50,000 acres in the four states of the upper Mississippi River: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois.  These protected properties contain diverse ecological communities – from steep bluff prairies to cold-air slopes, woodlands, wetlands and more.
